A favourite of trolls on Twitter, Barkha Dutt’s resignation evoked massive reactions on the micro-blogging site. Barkha Dutt has also hinted over setting up a new project.
A few months ago, Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami left the channel to start his own venture, Republic. This is second such announcement by a prominent journalist to leave a media channel after forming a long-term association. The 45-year-old who has been the face of media channel in India’s decision to separate from NDTV took everyone by surprise. Her sudden decision also puts questions on whether it was a pre-planned strategy by Barkha to get away from NDTV there by saving herself from the future embarrassment.Senior Journalist Barkha Dutt announced stepping down from her position of a consulting editor at NDTV after 21 long years. These developments had terrified Barkha Dutt and was desperately looking for an escape route. Subramanian Swamy also had started to pressurize the government and had even said he will move to Supreme Court seeking an investigation against NDTV and Barkha Dutt. Six months back the IT department had provided all proofs and details against Prannoy Roy, Barkha Dutt, Vikram Chandra and Sonia Singh who were allegedly involved in money laundering. She also is said to have diverted huge amount of funds to NDTV using foreign company SHELL.
Recently the had exposed huge corruption and money laundering scam of NDTV in which Barkha Dutt’s name was also under scanner. Barkha Dutt’s name was also heard in Radia tapes which turned to be a huge embarrassment for her. The NDTV had lost all credibility and the viewership had fallen to below 2%. Her constant support to separatists, terrorist like Burhan Wani, speaking against Indian Army earned her the name Anti National. The government had even order one day ban on NDTV, but was revoked later due to Lutyen’s pressure on government. The channel NDTV was also under sever scrutiny for reporting sensitive information during the Pathankot blast. She was criticized for revealing soldiers hiding spots during the kargil war which is said to have resulted in deaths of many soldiers. She has many times been in the headlines for all wrong reasons like supporting Anti Nationals, terrorists and separatists in Kashmir. But however most of them believe that NDTV and Barkha Dutt had lost total credibility since 2-3 years after her Anti National stand.īarkha Dutt is big controversial figure in the filed of journalism. The NDTV also released a statement after the announcement of Barkha Dutt’s resignation which said “In 1995, Barkha Dutt joined NDTV straight out of college, and now, after 21 wonderful years together, Barkha has requested that she would like to explore some new opportunities, pursue other interests and work on her own ventures. She said that she is now looking to start new projects of her own and want to diversify her interests. She has also said that she won numerous awards during her period in NDTV.
